How is Invisalign different from metal braces?

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment program that uses a series of custom-made medical-grade plastic trays instead of metal brackets, wires, and bands, to guide your teeth into the correct alignment. Many patients don’t want a mouth full of metal and prefer a less noticeable orthodontic treatment. In addition to being nearly invisible, Invisalign treatment can be quicker than traditional braces. You can also take the aligners out when you need to eat and clean your teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign treatment involves a series of aligners that are worn consecutively for two weeks each. Each aligner guides your teeth into a new position, eventually guiding your teeth to the desired location and angle to provide the smile you’ve always wanted. Before treatment begins, Dr. Jacinto will take detailed images of your teeth to map out exactly how they need to move to reach the correct positions. Your aligners are made to guide your teeth through the exact path needed to improve your bite and smile in two-week increments.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

First, the aligners are more or less invisible when you wear them, so no one will know that you’re having orthodontic treatment unless you choose to tell them. Second, you can take the aligners out of your mouth. This means that you don’t have to make adjustments to your diet, and you can thoroughly brush and floss your teeth without having to work around the brackets and wires associated with traditional braces. Additionally, since the aligners are made of smooth, medical-grade, BPA-free plastic, your gums and cheeks won’t be irritated.

How long will I have to wear my aligners?

Each patient has a unique experience with Invisalign, but treatment will typically range from 6-18 months. Dr. Jacinto will perform a comprehensive exam and provide you with further information on how long you’ll need to wear the aligners to achieve your ideal smile.
