Learn more about Invisalign and find out if they are a good fit for you. Here are answers to frequently asked questions about dental treatment with Invisalign.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a set of clear aligners that shift your teeth gently to a proper position. The aligners are removable, comfortable, and practically invisible. Invisalign has no wires and brackets and none of the limitations that accompany metal braces. It consists of pliable plastic that applies the appropriate force to align your teeth based on your treatment plan.

How Does the Invisalign Treatment Process Work?

The process usually starts with a dental appointment with a competent dentist. Your dentist will examine your teeth and smile and create a treatment plan. The plan will show the step-by-step restoration of your teeth and smile.

Your customized aligners will be generated as soon as you consent to the plan. You will wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours daily and get a new set every one or two weeks—your doctor will direct you. Each set will slowly correct the position of your teeth consistent with your treatment plan until you see the full results.

How Long Does It Take to See Results From Invisalign?

That depends on the severity of your case. On average, it may take six months to see the complete outcome of the treatment. But you may start noticing changes within weeks.

What Are the Do’s and Don'ts of Wearing Invisalign?

You can enjoy your favorite foods and drinks while on Invisalign treatment, but you must remove the aligners when eating or drinking to avoid damaging them. Also, make sure to rinse them and brush your teeth before putting them back on.

Additionally, your dentist may advise you against smoking while wearing the aligners because tobacco and nicotine can stain them.

Will Invisalign Change the Way You Look, Smile, or Talk?

It can take a while to acquaint yourself with Invisalign. So, you may become self-conscious about how you look, smile, or talk in them at first. You may also find that you talk haltingly, but that should clear up naturally in a couple of days.

Also, because the aligners are virtually unnoticeable, it may not be evident that you are wearing them. That makes Invisalign match your look and smile seamlessly.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Usually, the value of Invisalign is similar to that of braces. Your dentist will determine your cost depending on the complexity of your case and the number of aligners you will need.

Are You a Suitable Candidate for Invisalign?

A dental exam by your dentist will determine whether Invisalign will work for you. The treatment may not be a good fit for:

  • Severe crowding, open bites, overbites, underbites, and crossbites

  • Huge tooth gaps (wider than six millimeters)

If Invisalign is unfit for you, your dentist may recommend other treatments that best suit your needs.
