Lumineers Q & A

by Rudell Gary S. Jacinto, DMD

What are Lumineers?

Lumineers are digitally-designed veneers that cover your existing tooth, giving you a naturally white smile. These veneers are ultra-thin and applied directly over your teeth without the need for extensive preparation. Unlike traditional veneers, this minimally invasive procedure doesn’t require any teeth reduction and is completely pain-free and reversible.

Measuring approximately 0.2 mm, Lumineers are translucent and designed to replicate your tooth’s enamel, leaving you with a smile that looks and feels natural. These one-of-a-kind products typically last up to 20 years and do not require you to avoid certain foods and drinks.

How does the process of placing Lumineers work?

It takes two different appointments to complete the process of transforming your smile with Lumineers. During the first office visit, Dr. Jacinto makes an impression of both your upper and lower teeth. He also may examine your teeth and address any issues, such as cavities or decay. These impressions are sent to an authorized Lumineer laboratory, where your custom veneers are created.

In a few weeks, your Lumineers are completed and your second appointment is scheduled. During this visit, Dr. Jacinto adheres your Lumineers. Before bonding them, he places the veneers on your teeth to ensure the correct fit. If the fit is good, Dr. Jacinto etches each tooth to prepare it, then bonds the veneer to the tooth. Once the Lumineers are securely in place, he checks your bite and overall fit, ensuring the veneers are balanced. The whole process typically takes about an hour.

How do you know if Lumineers are right for you?

While Lumineers can’t fix every dental problem, they are a great solution for a variety of aesthetic dental issues. These veneers may be able to brighten your smile if you have issues with:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Odd spacing or gaps
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Crooked teeth

In some cases, Lumineers may be an alternative to braces or other orthodontic treatments. If your alignment issues aren’t severe, Dr. Jacinto may be able to reshape your teeth with Lumineers, making them appear straight and uniform. Instead of going through the months to years of discomfort caused by braces, you may be able to smile proudly and show off those straight, pearly whites in just a few weeks.

If you think Lumineers can brighten your smile, contact Dr. Jacinto. You can easily schedule your initial appointment online.
